Last fall, my wife and I went on a road trip to the southern United States, our the first park we camped at was Dead Horse State Park in Utah. The gem of the park is the lookout pictured here. There are a few stories in history that attempt to describe what really happened here to give this point it's name. I suppose there are two facts that are true in all the stories I've read so far. The first is that it has to do with horses and the second is this location.
On a more photographic side.. I had never been here before and we were only staying one night. The sunset was nice but not spectacular and I am not the biggest fan of taking photos directly into the sun (I prefer being back to it, if possible for landscapes) so I returned in the morning and was greeted with perfect sunrise! Taking the photos is really neat but what's even more amazing to me is "the moment"... all alone, sun is rising, the scenery is amazing.. what more could you ask for!?
I guess I forgot to mention that Dead Horse State Park is somewhere in the 5-6000 ft elevation and it can get pretty windy at times so our tent was shaken all night long but we still managed to sleep ok. For those of you that would prefer not camping the town of Moab is approximately 45 minutes away from this location and it has hotels and whatever else you can think of. |
